I have citizenship already. I am just waiting for GC:)
My parents are getting old. I am going back in 3 years. Heard from friends, earn enough and go. There will never be enough.
Almost, all of us started here from Nothing. Now we have atleast something to start with. Yes there is always things for Pros and Cons.
I am not worried about GC. Waiting for a good opportunity to jump back to India.
It will be really nice if I can get work from home job from US and settle down in a hill side with nice estate in India.

welcome to the world of retrogression. it is only going to get worse from here on out.
with the deluge of filings in june/july and aug. this year....the retrogression will get worse. USCIS will not make the same mistake again.
I see this prediction every now and then. Why don't you guys get your facts straight. Retrogression will remain the SAME. The pace at which they process GC's is not going to change. It's just applications moved from your home queue to the USCIS queue. Why would that make retrogression worse?? Think before you talk!!

What the hell is wrong with you? Stop using Slurs. Eating Sambar Rice and curd rice does not make a life life with out pride.
Take your Slavery argument some where else. if you truely believe so, go to your masters on the hill and fight for abolishing slavery.
Not able to work does not directly cause loss of self esteem. Sorry to say this but this is the bitter truth. if you or your spouse's self esteem is so hurt because of the inability to work, fight for it and get H-4's the ability to work. Some thing like Lily ledbetter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilly_Ledbetter_Fair_Pay_Act) did. Just blaming that it hurts my self esteem does not win brownie points.
You and Zen dont deserve reds. You guys are beyond red reds. So I will not give you a red so that your self esteem does not go down further.
So here come the thing. Thats why i asked in my original post is IV just for people who have applied for Green card ? I wanted to know if they could address these issues as well . Regarding inability to work and self esteem , just stay in home for few days and then feel how much you loose. Man , its 21st century and ability to work is basic right.

Hey Guys,
I am so intrigued by this whole affair I am not going to comment on USINPAC, however, I know Robinder Sachdev personally and can vouch for him and let us get things clear about Robinder Sachdev. I am dismayed and sad and wanted to step up to the plate for our good friend. I hope you will appreciate my spirit.
Guys, this guy is an asset for any team. How many of us know his nameversus others you know? I do not mind going out on a limb for Robinder as a person all you need to do is read what he writes. And I would like to answer the question of EAGERR2I about what Robinder may be thinking about our effortsplease go to http://www.dnaindia.com/report.asp?NewsID=1109544. An analysis like that in the main editorial page of the number 1 newspaper of Bombay, read by the CEOs, film makers, and politicians imagine what the impact of his words is?
And last week he had an article about the nuclear deal in India Abroadit was such a brilliant and balanced analysis. So maybe let us stop bashing up the talent we haverather let us talk to him and see how he can help us both in the US and India. I may be getting overly carried away, but I am in the same boat as you all are, and my family is hurting emotionally because of this mess we all are inbut I know how much this guy is working on issues of our interest. I just felt like getting this out of my system upon reading some of the comments in IV.
There are very few, if any, maybe a total of 4 or 5 people, in the US and India, like Robinder who understand the business, strategic affairs, and politics between the US and India; and the complexities of the relations and the peoples in both countries; and the issue of Indians in America (which means Indian Americans, GC applicants, and also H1 workers).
Robinder will be the last person to seek any publicity out of this. Lets get all the help that we need from this very influential and highly networked individual for our current and future print and visual media initiatives from Robinder who genuinely believes in the cause and wants to help IV.
Peace V
navkap,
I personally am not questioning Robinder's achievements/accomplishments. I am glad that the media mishap is ironed out and it ends there as one of our member said. No one has personal grudges here. You have been a member of IV from 2006 and know Robinder to an extent where you can go on a limb, how come you havent pushed him hard to support this, if not along with IV, but on his own. I have been visting a lot of immigration related internet forums for a while and I never saw any efforts towards this from any American Indian Citizen community. It could just be a coincidence that I might have not noticed any such efforts. I am more than happy to end this discussion here and stop retrospecting. The media mishap has been clarified. Lets leave it there, unless the American Citizen Indian community wants to do their part in achieving our common goal.

I just want to point out one missing thing here. I read all postings here and you guys talking about "People like lallu, Jaya, Karunanidhi, Naidu etc,". Might be you will add some more names for this category. I am sure most of the above patriotic Indians will not like to add names like Bal Thackeray, Modi etc. Majority of you guys like to add names like Dawood ibrahim (I hate guys who kill other human being including this guy) to bad guys list. At least people like "lallu, Jaya, Karunanidhi, Naidu etc" are Ok (that does not mean they are good). They kill one or two (might be 10/50) for their self interest and money. Guys like Bal Thackeray, Modi killing entire community openly by taking Police support. Same time so called patriotic-Indians elect these guys and make chief ministers. I always wonder when Thackeray, Modi can become ministers after committing such atrocities and walk freely in India, why can't people like Dawood Ibrahim (after all he is also indian and successful in his own profession).
You guys may think that I am racist by reading above lines. From bottom of my heart I vote for punishing all bad guys ( irrespective of their religion) who harm innocent human beings. Long live India..

The, few, motivated members like me who do take time off to visit Congressmen offices - do make all the points written down by you and some more. Our issue isn't that we are short of ideas or points. We have them in plenty. I assure you that I have raised these issues and made these points in every meeting that I have had so far.
Our issue is shortage of volunteers ready to visit Congressmen offices and making these points. It's highly critical that IV members keep visiting these lawmaker offices in small groups on a continuing basis (one group after another) to keep up the pressure and convince them of the genuineness and the breadth of our problem.
It would help our cause immensely if members did actually meet the lawmakers and made these points themselves, instead of expecting the few motivated members to act like a postman between them and the lawmakers. If lawmakers saw a larger number of members approaching them with the same points, it will make a better impact than a group of three which approaches them one in a while. It would help your cause as well as ours, if members did take initiative, set up meetings, and participated in these activities organized by state chapters in greater numbers
o.k. I agree. This was my suggestion - whenever core or senior or motivated members meet congressmen or other important people - he/she can just add this comment(in addition to whatever else they want to say) -
---------
Sir/Madam,
we represent the legal immigrant community. we believe that around 300K legal immigrants would contribute more to the US if something was done to take care of the inefficiencies and the long delays at USCIS. many of us have put on hold important decisions like buying houses, cars etc because of the uncertainities in the legal immigration process ..if something steps were taken to give the legal community ( like multiple year EAD's, less wastage of visa / visa recapture etc etc etc) ...then we can communicate the same to our members and this would help everyone etc etc etc. and maybe add the point that due to excessive delays and uncertainities (and the uncaring attitude of USCIS ..driver license issues etc) many skilled immi end up migrating to other countries which are more welcoming like canada, australia etc
---------------
I dont see how the above can hurt ?? maybe we need to write the above in a better way ...BTW even greenspan earlier had said that the problem in housing was an excess inventory of about 200 to 300 k house..ofcourse we cannot solve the present problems which is beyond everyone ..our aim is just to get more stability with multiple year EAD or faster GC's

As far as I know, if you filed for 485 and crossed 180 days after that with the same employer
Chandu, this is what I want to get answer from IV or Attorneys who are helping IV or IV can get clarifications from USCIS. how many are with same employers. We have many who lost jobs in between changed employer using h1 or EAD. changed jobs with EAD (so not a problem becuase they have used EAD)
problem is only for those who were on h1 and lost job, in between they are on bench for 1 or more than 1month.
If you manage to find a job pretty quick, then you can go for h1b transfer and it should not be an issue, but if it is taking time, then you may have issues
Then what?
If you manage to find a job pretty quick, then you can go for h1b transfer and it should not be an issue, but if it is taking time, then you may have issues with transfer because you may not have paystubs, but technically, you are legally allowed to stay because a decision on your 485 has not yet been made and before a decision is made look for a new job in same or similar criteria.
when you said technically, but you did not say one is OK and there is no supporting documentation or link
I guess you can understand from where I am coming.

Thanks for 'thanking' us. :-). We don't get it much here.
It's a well documented point that face-to-face meetings have the best chance of influencing lawmaker decisions [based on survey of Congressmen offices]. Letters come next and E-mails with addresses come the last. E-mail by anonymous senders are ignored. Hence the insistence on more face-to-face meetings.
If you don't know it already (which I doubt), sending a large number of anonymous E-mails, and making a large number anonymous posts in any forum is considered SPAMMING. IV will never participate or encourage such SPAMMING activities which will harm it's reputation (and don't help the cause too!)
If you think President is too busy to read our letters, why do you assume Bernanke is having all the time in the world to read anonymous E-mails and letters? He should be super-busy monitoring the BAD economic situation.
Regarding, "EB2 (I) and world advancing" if the trend continues its a good news for many, and lesser wait times for others. However, keep in mind that the swing will reverse soon, and dates will move back once we reach the end of the year (oct). PDs will be swinging wildly back and forth , like a pendulum, from now on. But don't count on it helping you. It's like a lottery. You may get it, or miss it. Until visa numbers are increased ,a large number of us, unfortunately, will continue to be stuck in the backlog and will be motivated to participate (once we have missed it for 2-3 years, we definitely will be more appreciative and more active).
No need to make melodramatic statements like these "people who oppose an idea(and take extra effort to shoot it down) are much worse than those who do nothing ". Nobody here is stopping you or others from doing what you deem right. We are just "suggesting" that it's not a good idea. You are free to ignore our suggestions, and do whatever you like. We too have the "freedom of expression" to make suggestions. Don't we?
first of all a big THANKS !! for doing the above. so basically we come to the earlier point - if there are not enough dedicated members (due to laziness, family priorities etc etc) then we can try the next thing i.e. send letters / emails to whoever cares to read them and pray that something happens.
as of now (and in my knowledge) IV is only sending letters to the President - who is obviously a busy man and maybe the letters dont even reach him.
and hence maybe IV should start campaigns to send emails / letters to other important people (Ben, Paulson, Realtors association etc etc ) and hope that the word reaches important people.
there is bit of urgency too ..as EB2 (I) and world start to advance ..you will get less volunteers (who take the effort to write and email)... let alone people who will take a day off to meet congressmen.
maybe people can just send emails or post messages related to legal immigration on websites which have articles on housing, economy etc ..what is needed is leadership at top to direct people (rather than concentrating on one campaign only)

Remember, 245i cases were the NOT the same as the mexican illegal aliens that are being spoken of in relation to CIR .. lots of educated, legal H1-Bs lost their jobs (and their legal status) during the dot com burst of 2000 - 2002. Some of them stayed on even after going out of status, and then became eligible to file for GC under 245i.And needless to say, many more of those H1s came from India than mexico.
These people are illegal nevertheless, and I am ashamed that they are from my country.

How are you sure that the "sneaking in" of our provisions with the 'undocument workers' provisions is going to alleviate our plight?.
Note that the staff to support this overhaul is not going to increase overnight. Consider this - 100 people (just a 'supposition' - this is not a hard number) are working on 500,000 applications today; With the passage of provisions for 'undocumented workers', the same staff of 100 is going to work on 11 million 500,000 applications, atleast for the next 1-2 years. Do you understand the mess that this will create? It will be a similar mess as the 'Labor backlog center', where the applications of 2003 are still waiting for their certifications.
Although I agree that we should work towards supporting the current provisions already in the bill, I still feel that issues such as 'I-485 application without PD current' and 'removal of hard country quota' are important, in order to ensure short-term reliefs. These provisions may not help your specific case, however it may help 1000s of other cases.
Just my opinion from the limited knowledge that I have of, how UCSIS operates!!!
Good luck:)

I understand that you guys have done a lot with limited resources, but trying to isolate yourself from the issue of illegal immigrants issue is not going to help us either. We need to use the momentum of illegal issue to sneak in our provisions (which we already have with the advance degree provision, exception of spouses from cap, capture of unused visa numbers).
I think you are wrong in stating that I do not grasp the issue that AILA is only interested in illegal immigration issue and not in EB3 retrogression. I know that more than you can imagine, which is why I have been urging the forum to stop asking every one to fax the senators with requests to remove hard limits by country or even concurrent filing of I145 when visa numbers are not current. I read on post by a junior member where that person DID GET A CALL BACK FROM ONE OF THE SENETORS OFFICE AND THAT GUY COULD NOT ARTICULATE THE ISSUE WHEN THE SENETOR ASKED HIM IF THE ISSUE WE ABOUT INCREASING H1-B’S.
Exactly what happens when thousands of people contact senators instead of one fax from one organization with one point of contact just so that if some one actually calls back from the senator’s office we at least have some one who could explain the situation in a way that makes sense?
Also, I know how difficult it could be to get an amendment in just as well as you and I also know the fact that the real interest is in solving the illegal immigrant’s issue. The reason for that is the issue that the U.S has is with ILLIGAL IMMIGRATION. The EB retrogression is really our problem, not some thing that is going to raise alarms in the senate. Which is why any amount of hue and cry is not going to change the situation? We should be glad that the advance degree provision, recapture of unused visa numbers and exemption of spouses from cap will make way for a few people and in the process clear up the backlog in EB3 category. We need to back this unanimously instead of trying to introduce new amendments in the last minute. No offence but

I'm not sure about the usefulness of this poll? If you look at the percentage of people applied on 2nd July, it is close to 70%. Assuming some error in the polling percentage, this poll indicates that atleast 50% of people have appplied already on 2nd July. As per the press reports, USCIS has received around 55000 applications on 18th July. That means another 55000 people only are going to apply by 17th Aug making a total of 110,000 plus minus 20,000. I do not believe this number and the poll. Any arguments here?

This is pure propaganda and the height of protectionist folly. It is the type of retrograde ideology and manipulative language that feeds the worst fears of struggling blue collar workers.
There was a piece on CBS this weekend, espousing the benefits of skilled immigration and Fareed Zakharia taking about the imperative of America having a wiser immigration and education policy if it wishes to maintain its leadership position in the world.
The fact is we are not anchor immigrants. We are JOB ANCHORS. We anchor jobs for others in America or wherever we end up. Our skills are in demand globally and those skills draw capital and investment, additionally the service sector jobs then get built around them. When Microsoft sets up a development center in Vancouver instead of Seattle, the other jobs to serve those employees are anchored in Canada not the USA. Skilled immigrants are net job creators. For most Americans our presence adds vibrancy to the economy, more jobs, more investments, more skills and more taxes and is an overall plus to competitiveness. This country has never been short of opportunity, it has been short of people to take advantage of these opportunities. None of this is refutable, and so they take the weakest, vaguest link they have to our homelands, to make a dismal case against our presence here. They are such losers, words do not begin to describe them. They are mostly offshoots of old race based organisations, now reduced to shadow tactics such as this, spreading misinformation, propaganda and vitriol. The irony is they may be Americans but they do not represent the American spirit, we on the other hand may not be American but represent the American spirit.

Yes. a law will be good.
yes now go do some research about how a proposal becomes a law! Signing a petition doesn't go anywhere, its just one of the many steps to influence the lawmakers.
On your other post, your comments are the stupidest ever! So please research before saying other peoples comments stupid :P
